Nubo Japanese Tapas – The Best Sushi in Victoria

This place made a name for itself by doing Japanese tapas better than anyone else. The sushi is top-tier, but the energy here is just as good.

I love coming here with friends, ordering way too many rolls, and sharing plates like we’re royalty. The cocktails are solid, and the sushi? Fresh, creative, and packed with flavour.

Is it your typical sushi bar? Not quite. But for me, they still have the best sushi in Victoria.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Trying the Nubo aburi roll. Torched salmon, sauce, perfection.

Gozen Sushi Bar Izakaya – The Best Sashimi in Victoria

Gozen is one of those places that doesn’t try too hard—it doesn’t have to. The sushi speaks for itself.

I came here on a rainy day, grabbed a bar seat, and let the chef do his thing. Every bite felt like a little piece of Japan. The fish is high quality, but the rice is perfect.

They proudly use Akazu vinegar and the best sushi rice from Japan for that ideal flavour and texture. As someone who has visited Japan, I immediately noticed the difference.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Picking one of their numerous lunch specials under $25.

Taisho Sushi – Victoria’s Best Casual Japanese

Taisho’s menu blends traditional Japanese flavours with modern twists. Dishes are thoughtfully crafted to delight the senses and introduce diners to new culinary experiences.

The restaurant is associated with the Nubo Group, known for its excellence in Japanese cuisine, which adds to its credibility and prestige.

This is a more casual, budget-friendly option for those looking for the same great tastes as Nubo without a fine dining atmosphere.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Tasting the pressed and seared wild sockeye oshizizushi.

Shizen Sushi – The Best Sushi in Chinatown

Shizen is one of those places that just gets it right. No frills, no gimmicks, just fresh sushi made properly.

I’ve been here for quick lunches and long, slow dinners, and it works for both. The fish quality is great, and the prices aren’t ridiculous.

They’ve been around since 2006, so you know they’ve got the formula down pat—a perfect way to break up a day visiting Victoria’s Chinatown or Fan Tan Alley.

⭐ Don’t leave without: The famous highlander roll with seared teriyaki beef.

Fudo Japanese Restaurant Sushi – Victoria’s Best Fusion Sushi

Are you looking to try something different? Still want the best in fresh local ingredients, like sockeye salmon, BC spot prawns, and sea urchins? Well, here’s your spot.

Fudo Japanese Restaurant manages to offer a wide selection of fusion-style rolls and unique creations while still adhering to the traditions of Japanese cuisine. Possibly a product of having one of the few female sushi chefs in town.

As somewhat of a sushi traditionalist, I walked in here not expecting much and left completely sold. Friendly staff, solid sushi, and a great spot for a special night out. Oh, and the ramen is terrific, too!

⭐ Don’t leave without: Sampling a roll from their fusion creations menu.

Ebizo Japanese Restaurant – The Best Sushi Bar in Victoria

This place is tiny, so it’s easy to miss, but don’t. It’s got some of the best variety in town, and the fish is always fresh.

I walked in here not expecting much and left completely sold. Friendly staff, solid sushi, and a great spot for a special night out.

You’ll pay a slight premium, but I’ve had visitors compare Ebizo with the best of Vancouver or San Francisco. So how can you lose?

⭐ Don’t leave without: Letting the chef choose by picking his omakaze menu.

Uchida Eatery – The Best Donburi Bowls in Victoria

This place is tiny. Like, tiny, tiny. But if you can get in, it’s totally worth it. It’s not a spot for big groups, but if you’re looking for quality over quantity, this is it.

Situated right at the heart of Victoria’s Inner Harbour, this lunch-only hideaway is perfect to break up a day of sightseeing on your Victoria itinerary.

The sushi here is chef-driven, carefully made, and some of the best in Victoria. But for me, it’s all about their donburi bowls—they advertise different specials daily.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Any of their masterful donburi bowls—they’re simply works of art.

Sen Zushi – The Most Authentic Sushi Restaurant in Victoria

If you want traditional sushi done right, this is your place. As soon as you enter, their classic Japanese-style dining room transports you across the Pacific for a hint of what’s to come.

I came here expecting a good meal and got a great one. The attention to detail is next level, and the presentation makes everything look like it belongs in a museum.

This is a great spot to find authenticity, with their lunch bentos being one of the best deals in town.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Trying any of their lunch gozen bento boxes—there are 10 priced below $20!

One of the special rolls at Sushi Langford, just outside of Victoria, BC.

Sushi Langford – The Best Sushi in Victoria Outside of Downtown

Worth the drive out of downtown, 100%.

I found this place by accident during a trip to Costco, and now I am actively looking for reasons to go back. The sushi is fresh, the portions are generous, and it’s got that hidden gem feel.

Is it as fancy as the downtown spots? Not quite. But Sushi Langford only uses the freshest ingredients and exclusively wild local salmon. That alone earns a return trip for me.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Trying one of their specialty rolls. They don’t skimp on the fillings.

Fujiya Japanese Foods – The Best Cheap Sushi in Victoria

So, it’s a Japanese grocery store, but it has a sushi counter inside? Unreal. This unique spot was my go-to sushi destination when I was a broke student.

I returned recently and grabbed a few rolls, thinking they’d be decent, and they ended up being amazing. Maybe even better than I remembered!

The quality is miles above your average grab-and-go sushi. It is perfect for students or those looking to feed their family on the cheap.

⭐ Don’t leave without: Loading up on the combos or sushi trays—the prices are unreal!
